Purim

March 13 - 14, 2025

The festival of Purim commemorates the Divinely orchestrated salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day.” It is celebrated with Megillah readings, gifts of food, charity, feasting, and merriment.

Dear Friend,

With Purim just around the corner, we take this opportunity to remind you that one of the main observances of this festive holiday, dating back to the very first Purim, is that of “Matonot L’evyonim” – extending alms to the needy among us.

Indeed, no celebration of our tradition can be deemed appropriate or complete if it does not include providing joy and relief to those of our brothers and sisters who are hurting.

As we do every year, Chabad will again be serving as our community’s conduit for the fulfillment of this mitzvah by discreetly distributing vital support to many individuals and families throughout the greater Conejo Valley area who are struggling to make ends meet.

Furthermore, as was the case last year, our “Matonot L’evyonim” project takes on an added dimension as we continue to allocate additional funds to help those of our brethren in Israel who’ve been suffering in the wake of October 7, 2023 – especially the refugees from the border cities and kibbutzim who were displaced from their homes for over a year and are now finally returning to their communities.

Please visit www.chabadconejo.com/donate to fulfill your Matonot L’evyonim mitzvah and help bring smiles to the faces of young and old this coming Purim!

With heartfelt gratitude and wishes for a jubilant and triumphant Purim to you and yours amongst all of Israel, we remain,

Sincerely Yours,

Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski

Rabbi Yisroel Levine

Rabbi Leibel Kahanov

PS – Other primary observances of Purim include listening to the reading of the Book of Esther (aka the Megillah) on Purim Eve and Day (March 13-14), sending “Shalach Manot” – gifts of at least two different food items – to your friends, and participating in a Purim feast.
