Judaism and the Supernatural

Beneath the surface of Jewish law and ethics lies a world of legends stranger than fiction. The Talmud and Midrash speak of dragons and demons, mermaids and aliens, machine-men and golems — fantastical beings that defy the boundaries of nature and time. But what are we to make of these ancient accounts? Are they metaphors? Mystical realities? Lost memories of civilizations past?

In this spellbinding lecture, Rabbi Yechiel Krisch explores the supernatural tales embedded within rabbinic literature—from the cosmic to the cryptic—and considers what these stories reveal about Jewish theology, the human imagination, and the ongoing search for meaning in a mysterious universe.
